The Meaning of the Numbers 1-9
1 - God, as in the Trinitarian God, or God the Father - the first person of the Godhead.
2 - Unity, or God the Son - the second person of the Godhead.
3 - The Trinity, or God the Holy Spirit - the third person of the Godhead.
4 - The World or Creation - in the Bible the number 4 is associated with the created world and completeness in a physical sense. Here are some examples that illustrate this connection:
- The Four Corners of the Earth: The Bible refers to the "four corners of the earth" (e.g., Isaiah 11:12, Revelation 7:1), symbolizing the entirety of the world or the completeness of creation.
- The Four Winds: Passages like Ezekiel 37:9 and Revelation 7:1 mention the "four winds," representing the forces that cover and impact all of creation.
- The Four Living Creatures: In both Ezekiel 1:5-10 and Revelation 4:6-8, there are descriptions of four living creatures, which are thought to symbolize all life forms—wild animals, domesticated animals, birds, and humanity.
- The Material World: The number 4 is also tied to the physical universe, seen in the four elements of ancient thought—earth, air, fire, and water—and the four directions (north, south, east, and west), which encompass the entirety of space.
- The Four Rivers of Eden: In Genesis 2:10-14, the river flowing out of Eden divides into four rivers—Pishon, Gihon, Tigris, and Euphrates—symbolizing the nourishment and reach of creation across the earth.
- The Four Seasons: While not explicitly mentioned as "four seasons" in the Bible, the concept of seasons is present (e.g., Ecclesiastes 3:1). The cycle of spring, summer, autumn, and winter reflects the natural order and rhythm of God's creation.
- The Four Gospels: The New Testament has four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—which together provide a complete account of Jesus' life, teachings, death, and resurrection. While not directly linked to the physical world, their number symbolizes the comprehensiveness of the message for all humanity.
- Four Generations: In several passages, the idea of four generations is used to represent a span of time encompassing human history and life cycles (e.g., Genesis 15:16; Job 42:16).
- The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: In Revelation 6:1-8, four horsemen symbolize forces that impact the world—conquest, war, famine, and death. These are seen as events with universal significance tied to the world's fate.
- The Tabernacle and Four Directions: The tabernacle in the wilderness was oriented with regard to the four cardinal directions, aligning the dwelling place of God with the entirety of creation.
This symbolic use of the number 4 highlights the idea of universality and order in the created world, as seen through the lens of biblical themes.
5 - The Grace of God, noting that Grace is always connected with the Holy Spirit and can mean either an empowering to do something in accordance with God's Will, or to be the recipient of God's undeserved Favour through the power of the Holy Spirit. Significantly, this connection with God's Spirit is first seen on day 5 of creation, when for the first time creatures come into being that as the KJV Bible states "hath life" where the original Hebrew word for life was נפש or Nephesh, which the bible consistently uses in connection with God's Spirit; Breath, Life and Soul - see Gen 1:20 below for this first reference:
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the ||moving †creature that hath life, and †fowl that may fly above the earth in the †open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
6 - Man or Mankind in hebrew אָדָם֙ or Adam
The Holy Bible: King James Version, Electronic Edition of the 1900 Authorized Version. (Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 2009), Ge 1:20–23.
7 – Perfection; Completion; Oath (Swearing); Covenant; Ordinal No; Sabbath - Cycle and Rest.
8 – Jesus; Salvation; New beginning; Source of the 8th day that will never end – eternity.
- Jesus in Greek is Ἰησοῦς and the Greek Gematria Values for the letters of His name are Ἰ (10) η (8) σ (200) ο (70) ῦ (400) ς (200) and the total of His name = 10+8+200+70+400+200 = 888
- Jesus' name in Hebrew is Yeshua (יֵשׁ֨וּעַ Nehemiah 8:17), which is the abbreviation of Jehoshua (Joshua - יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ Numbers 13:16), and the meaning of the name means 'Jehovah is salvation, or Jehovah saves" or more fully is 'Jehovah saves those who call out for help' (noting that the name is a construct and the includes the verb shua that is a cry for help). Understanding both the connection of Jesus' name to Salvation and his connection to the number 8, it is interesting to note the following:
- The number 144 is associated with the salvation of fallen humanity, with Revelation showing 144,000 Jewish servants of God being sealed for the sake of the sharing the Gospel, during the Tribulation.
- And 144 Cubits is one of the dimensions of the walls of the New Jerusalem that comes down from Heaven in which all believers who are saved (both Jew and Gentile), will dwell with God.
- Additionally, 144 is the number of hours that God used to create the World before He rested - 6 x 24 days = 144 hours. This reveals God's heart to save all of humanity as it was a factor of creation before mankind had even fallen and before there was a division of humanity into Jews and Gentiles.
- 144 = 8 (Jesus number) x 18 (6+6+6) - so hidden in a number (144) that represents the salvation of humanity that is open to all, but only received by those who repent and call out to God for His Forgiveness, we see two factors 8 and 18. The 8 represents Jesus laying down His life for the Sinners represented by the 18, which is 6+6+6 a number that is associated with Sin and that will ultimately be fulfilled to its fullest extent by the Anti-Christ, who is referred to as the 'Man of Sin' in Thessalonians.
- We also note that God has given a symbolic limit to the time that He will strive with Sinful man and this was 120 years. In this regard, it is significant that 120 = 8 (Jesus number) x 15 (5+5+5) - so again we see hidden in a number (120) a special work of Jesus in that 120 represents a time period of Grace, during which God will strive with sinful man. Then we see that it is represented by two factors 8 and 15. Again the 8 represents Jesus who IS the reason why God can extend the Grace that is represented by 15 (5x3 - noting that 5 is always associated with Grace and 3 is the Trinity of God). Importantly, though this Grace is only for a season and while God is patient it will come to an end. In this regard, it is worth noting that Hebrew Numbers are always written as words, and each letter of Hebrew also has a value, so amazingly when you add the value of each of the letters that comprise the two words for 120 in Hebrew - (מֵאָ֥ה) that means 100 and (עֶשְׂרִ֖ים) that means 20, you get a total of 666, the end-time number for the Anti-Christ. This emphasizes that the season of Grace will come to an end and we can know now that we are close to this time because - 120 x 50 (Jubilee years) = 6,000 years and the genealogies of the bible show we are very close to the 6,000 years of Human History and the Jubilee is the year when all is lost will be restored, as defined in Leviticus chapter 25.
- Jesus was raised on the 1st Day of the Week, which is simultaneously the 8th day of the previous week. This is important because Leviticus 23 lists all of the 8 Feasts of the Lord and it designates the Final One to be Shemini Atzeret (שְׁמִינִי עֲצֶרֶת—"Eighth [day] of Assembly"), noting that it follows on from the 'Feast of Tabernacles' that lasts for 7 days from the 15th of the 7th Month to the 21st of the 7th month
34 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the LORD. 35 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it. 36 For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it. 37 These are the feasts of the LORD which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering and a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, everything on its day— 38 besides the Sabbaths of the LORD, besides your gifts, besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings which you give to the LORD. 39 ‘Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep the feast of the LORD for seven days; on the first day there shall be a sabbath-rest, and on the eighth day a sabbath-rest. ” Leviticus 23:34-39
AND Colossians states that Jesus is the Substance of the Feasts / Festivals. In other words, the 8 Feasts are a rehearsal of the things or events to come that point to Jesus and His work of Redemption:
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:16-17
AND notably these 8 Feasts of the LORD, that involve convocations (assemblies for rehearsal), are all about Eternity because 8 is the number of Jesus our Saviour and our LORD and we are heading toward the 8th Day of Creation as stated in Revelation 21:
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” 6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. Revelation 21:1-7
This occurs after 6,000 years of human history that is followed by a 1,000 year Millennial Age reign of Jesus for a total of 7,000 years that has been purposed by God to match the 7 days of Creation, noting that 2 Peter 3:8 states:
" 8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8
In this respect the 8th day is the day that follows the 7th Millennial Day, but significantly, it is a day that will never end, as Revelation 21 above shows. It is the beginning of Eternity when there will be no more tears, sorrow, death, crying or pain. Importantly, all men enjoy a temporal day before the 8th day arrives, but whether or not they enter into the 8th day with the Lord is dependent upon a choice that they need to make. As such, the essence of a 'day' is about making a choice, out of only 2 possibilities. Interestingly, this is reflected in the Hebrew letters for the word day, which are יוֹם (yom), and the ancient pictographic meanings of these letters again reveals that the word 'day' (yom in hebrew) is a time limited period that is about making a choice - see how this works below:
Yod (י) - Hand- Divine Work
Vav (וֹ)- Nail or Peg - connects two things together
Mem (ם) - Waters - 2 possibilities - either of chaos or living waters (darkness or light) (death or life)
Notably, the Day of the Lord is the divine judgement of all of mankind (the letter Yod). Jesus connected himself to us by becoming a man and sin (the letter Vav) and received our judgement to give us a choice (the letter Mem). Those that seek Jesus the source of living waters will be raptured out of the darkness into the kingdom of light from death to life and will become part of the eternal 8th day, to be with Jesus forever.
On this understanding, the final 8th day celebration Shemini Atzeret that occurs on the 22nd of the 7th month, or 22nd of Tishrei on the modern Hebrew Calendar, will correspond with the final day of the Millenium in some future year.
In Summary:
There are 8 Feasts / Holy Convocations that are directly connected with Jesus. Essentially, God commanded for 8 'times of gathering' to be celebrated each year that would culminate in the final 8th day gathering shemini atzeret - which is a pointer to the beginning of Eternity, and as such is ultimately the day that all Bible Prophecy points to - see the biblical references to these 8 Feasts below:
1. Sabbath - Lev 23:3 every 7th day until the sun is replaced with the son on the 8th day
2. Feast Of Unleavened Bread (Day1) - Lev 23:7 and (Day7) - Lev 23:8
3. Feast Of First Fruits - Lev 23:9-14
4. Pentecost - Lev 23:21
5. Feast of Trumpets - Lev 23:24
6. Day of Atonement - Lev 23:27
7. Feast of Tabernacles (Day 1) - Lev 23:35
8.The Eighth Day - Lev 23:36
The Dates of the 8 Feasts (Appointments) of the LORD (not 7) with 7 Holy Convocations (assembly or gathering for rehersal)
1. Passover - 14th Nisan
2. Feast of Unleavened Bread - H.C. (X2) - 15th of Nisan
3. Feast of First Fruits - 16th Nisan
4. Pentecost - H.C. - 6th Sivan
5. Feast of Trumpets - H.C. - 1st Tishrei
6. Day of Atonement - H.C. - 10th Tishrei
7. Feast of Tabernacles - H.C. - 15th Tishrei
8. The Eighth Day - H.C. - 22nd Tishrei
Importantly, the 8 feasts form 2 patterns of 4 (see below) that are parallel events and that are related to the events of Jesus' first and second comings in the world and that reveal his plan and purpose of Redemption
1. Passover - Sacrifice on the Cross 5. Feast of Trumpets - Salvation from Death and Slavery
2. Feast of Unleavened Bread - Death and Burial — 6. Day of Atonement - Purge and Payment for Sin
3. Feast First Fruits - Wave Offering of Jesus Sacrifice to Father— 7. Feast of Tabernacles - First Offering of ourselves to the Lord
4.Pentecost -Jesus sent His Spirit after Resurrection — 8. The 8th Day - The Fulness of Lord in our Lives (Eternity)
Significantly in this Regard, if Jesus fulfilled exactly to the day the requirements of the first 4 Feasts, there is absolutely no reason not to believe that He will fulfill exactly to the day the second or last 4 Feasts (numbers 5-8). In this way, it is perfectly reasonable to expect that the next prophetic event in relation to Jesus - the Rapture of the Church - will occur on the Feast of Trumpets, the next Feast to be fulfilled. As this is currently a two-day Feast, making it the 'Unknown Day', it is only the year that remains the biggest unknown.
9 – Finality; Redemption; Sacrifice; Judgement; Holiness; and Purity.
- 1 (God the Father) + 9 (Sacrifice; Judgement; and Holiness) = 10 (Law and Spirit – Judgment and Holiness in the life of all men) – the Father sent the Son who kept the Law and died for Sin
- 2 (God the Son) + 9 = 11 (Final Judgement on Anti-Christ Spirit – Jesus was 33 or 3 x 11 when He came to defeat Sin and Death and brought Judgement against all evil on the Cross)
- 3 (Godhead) + 9 (Finality and Redemption) = 12 (sent ‘Seed of the Woman’ to redeem mankind – Jesus crushed Satan’s Head at the Cross – it is Finished)
- 4 (World) + 9 (Judgement and Holiness) = 13 (Reveals mankind’s rebellion in the world)
- 5 (Work of Holy Spirit) + 9 (Redemption and Judgement) = 14 (God’s oath to become the sacrifice Lamb as a Judgement of Sn for our Redemption).
- 6 (Man; Mankind) + 9 (Redemption and Judgement) = 15 (Feast of Unleavened Bread – Son of Man pays the price for man’s sin).
- 7 (Fulfilment and Oath) + 9 ( Redemption) = 16 (God’s promise to redeem us is fulfilled when Jesus becomes the First Fruits, the first born or all creation).
- 8 (Jesus; Salvation) + 9 (Redemption) = 17 (New Resurrected Life is the Final Destiny for all Believers).
- 9 (Finality; Judgement and Redemption) + 9 ( Final Judgement and Redemption) = 18 or 666 (the final judgement of God against evil will be against the Lawless one in the last days).
